They know they aren't going to make money on the sales, if they're going to make money it's more likely to be on selling the rights. Tony: But Markosia push your product for you because they have a vested interest right? The contract is they take a chunk of the ownership. Sorry Chris for snapping btw - it's been a long weekend. The new PR guy and the sales guy alone are well known. Markosia are very good at ensuring that the product is top notch, and 2008 is going to surprise a lot of people. Every Image book is not a Walking Dead, maybe not even a Phonogram.īut we all know that at the end of the day 80% of the reason we want that book in print is so that editors for other companies will see that comic. I can name a handful of books out of dozens that have in the last year. If I hadn't have used Markosia, I'd never have gotten my literary agent.Īnd honestly? A percentage of books these days makes enough money to cover the creative team. That said, Image will step back and let you get on with things in other media - whereas AAM/Markosia actively pushes your products for you. And, as a copy for copy comparison, Image is far ahead. True - Markosia doesn't often do the same figures as Image. I've moved from Goth chicks to Suicide Girls now - didn't you get the memo? What kind of name is Secretia anyway? :har: Hope to see you in Bristol Tony, Hopefully I can pull you away from the goth chicks long enough to buy you a beer and have a chat. If you were accepted by both companies, in terms of unit sales, you'd have to be somewhat 'touched' to choose Markosia over Image at the moment wouldn't you? :) For most of us, Image/Dark Horse/Book publishers/IDW/Oni/Ait are the preferred publishers for creator owned titles then Ape, Markosia, Arcana, etc. I'm sure you have your reasons for publishing with Markosia, whether it was to do with their dealings in ancillary rights and you thought you have a better chance making money there, your belief in the start out company, your position as an editor, you didn't get picked up by image or you're just not willing to risk not covering the fee at the time or whatever your reason was at the time. For god sake man, you know the kind of numbers Markosia do. The potential for sales is currently much larger with image than Markosia due to their trading history and current standing in the market place. But, even you know deep down, in terms of unit sales your books would have been better off at image. Tony: I pick up Markosia books regularly, yes even the ones you've contributed to :) and I will continue to support the company. :)Įvery writer out there should letter their own work at least once, It seriously shows so many mistakes. If you want, post the script to page 1 and I'll test letter it today and post the image up for you to show how it'll look. Unless you know that the artist is a consummate professional. When you're working on a comic for the first time, I suggest that you take the pencils and test-letter over them before you greenlight inks and colours. If this is the case, you'll have to redraw before sending to Image. Why? Because - I don t think you've allowed enough space for dialogue in panel 5 and dialogue in panel 6 will go over the box they're looking at unless it's a single line. I have a favour to ask - before you do any more of The Anxiety, see how a lettered page 1 looks. I also suggest nothing bigger than a 4 or 5 part story. You'll need to really push the boat out, as we used to get at least one pitch a month along the lines of 'physical manifestations caused by stress' - seriously, last SDCC? It was that and Vampire Westerns. As the one time group editor of Markosia (and the guy who DECIDED on submissions), I can tell you right now that the high concept won't sell it. In multiple occasions it tells you that YES, you could email your submission. See above? See where people are suggestion you look? No offense man, but if you can't even follow the advice in THIS forum, you won't get anywhere. Please read our submissions guidelines for more information." Proposals are only accepted through the mail. "Can I submit a proposal to Image via email?
